Eduroam (education roaming) is a secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community. Eduroam is available at thousands of institutions worldwide, see link for a full list of eduroam participants https://eduroam.org/where/?location=us.

Troubleshooting my eduroam connection.

Connecting to eduroam is as easy as entering your username (CNU Email) and password, however, in some cases users may find themselves struggling to maintain a connection or get connected at all. Please review the information below if you are running into an issue with eduroam. 

The troubleshooting steps below apply to CNU faculty, staff, and students. If you are visiting Christopher Newport and are having issues connecting to eduroam please verify with your home institution that your credentials are correct, if you continue to have issue you can visit the IT help desk located in the Trible Library.






Troubleshooting steps for a smart phone

For detailed instructions on how to connect to eduroam for your smart phone please visit the following LINK, if you run into an issue please follow the troubleshooting steps below.

Step 1: Perform a "forget" network and wait 10 minutes before trying to reconnect to eduroam, verifying that your entering your CNU email address and correct password.

Step 2: Verify eduroam connection settings

  • Android users, please verify that;
    • Verify that EAP method is set to PEAP.
    • Set Phase 2 authentication to MSCHAPv2.
    • Select Do not validate in the CA Certificate field.

      Note:

      • Some versions of Android will list (Unspecified)
      • Android 7 (and higher) devices may require an entry for Domain: cnu.edu


  • Apple iPhone users, please verify that;
    • you do not have a profile configured for eduroam - this situation may occur if you first connected to eduroam at a different University or other research institution. Navigate to Settings > General > Profiles & Device Management and look for a profile present. Once you delete the profile you will have to reauthenticate to eduroam.

  • Chrome users, please verify that;
    • Verify that EAP method is set to PEAP.
    • Set Phase 2 authentication to Automatic.
    • Select Do not Check in the CA Certificate field.


  • Apple MacBook users, please verify that;
    • you do not have a profile configured for eduroam - this situation may occur if you first connected to eduroam at a different University or other research institution. Navigate to Click the System Preferences icon ea58f8c6c6b9d4daec119ad6629265dc.png in the Dock, select Profiles and look for a profile present. Once you delete the profile you will have to reauthenticate to eduroam.
