Windows

You are able to install MATLAB on your own computer.  To download the installer, visit the MathWorks Portal page at https://www.mathworks.com/academia/tah-portal/christopher-newport-university-40584904.html

Getting MATLAB

Click on Get Started Now under Download MATLAB.

Next, it will ask you to log in to MathWorks. If you don’t have an account associated with your CNU e-mail address, you’ll need to create one.  To do so, click Create Account.

You’ll have to give your e-mail address, as well as answer a couple of additional questions, including your planned use for the software and whether you’re older than 13 years old. Answer the questions and click Create.

You’ll then receive a confirmation e-mail.  Give it a few minutes to send before clicking the “Send me the e-mail again” link or contacting MathWorks support.

When you receive the e-mail from service@mathworks.com, you can click the button to continue your registration.

Once you do, you’ll be taken to a page to finish creating your profile.

Enter your name and pick a user ID.  Then choose a password for your account.  Your password needs to be at least 6 characters, contain both uppercase and lowercase letters and a number.  Then add your role and department and click Create.

When you do, you’ll see the License Center and a message with your license number.  Click the Download Installer button.

You can then select the release that you want to download.  Unless you have a compelling reason to download an earlier one, choose the latest one that’s pre-selected.

Next, you’re asked which system you’d like to download the installer for. Choose the appropriate one for your operating system.

Double-click the downloaded file. A box may come up asking if you want to run it.  Click Run.

If you aren’t in an administrator account, you’ll be prompted to enter an administrator username and password.

The installer will then launch.  Choose “Log in with a MathWorks Account” and click Next.

Next, you’ll be prompted to accept the terms of the license agreement.  Choose Yes and click Next.

On the next screen, you’ll need to enter the e-mail address and password you used to create your MathWorks account. Then, click next.

You’ll be asked to select a license.  One should be pre-filled for you.  All you should need to do is click Next.

You’ll be asked to pick a destination folder.  Just click Next.

Next, you’re asked to select the products that you’d like to install.  They’re all selected by default, but if you know you won’t need some of them, you can uncheck them to save download time and disk space.  When you’re happy with what you’re installing, you can click Next.

If you try to select an invalid configuration, you will get instructions on how to fix it.  Click Yes, and make the necessary corrections on the selection screen.

You’ll then have some last options to choose.  Do so and click Next twice.

The install will then start.  After it completes, you’ll have to activate your license.  Click Next to begin.

The activation will begin.  Next, a screen will come up that asks for the windows user who is able to use the software.  ONLY ONE USER CAN USE THIS SOFTWARE, so make sure you enter in the right one. If you are running the installer as an administrator and you don’t do so regularly, you’ll need to enter in your non-admin user here.

You’ll be asked to confirm whether the information is correct.  If it is, click Confirm.  If not, click Back and fix it.

Activation will then be complete and you can use MATLAB.
