Blackboard Collaborate allows you to show YouTube or other videos that can be played from the internet to participants by sharing a Chrome tab. The quality of these videos is dependent on your and the participants' internet connections, so you may want to have participants watch the video directly instead. Note: This platform is NOT designed with the intent of sharing video that is not already publically shared (ex. a privately-owned DVD or video via streaming services), which have technical and legal protections against this kind of distribution.

To share a video on Collaborate, you must use Google Chrome to access both Collaborate and the video.

Pull up your video in one tab, pause it, and join your Collaborate session in another tab.

Once in your Collaborate session, open the Collaborate menu at the bottom-right corner of the page.

Collaborate Tab

On the Share tab, click Share Application/Screen.

A popup will appear asking you what you'd like to share.  Click the "Chrome Tab" at the top, and choose the tab.

At the bottom, you must check the Share audio box or your participants will not be able to hear the video.  Then, click Share to begin sharing the tab containing the video.

You should turn your microphone off while sharing video, otherwise, you could cause an echo effect for your participants.

Switch to the tab with the video and start the video.

When you're done with the video, stop the video and click Stop at the top of the screen.
