What is Windows 10S?
Windows 10S is a version of Microsoft Windows that allows only applications from the Windows Store to run on your computer and only Edge to be your default web browser. It is installed on some inexpensive laptops targeted at the education market.
Can I use my Windows 10S PC at CNU?
Yes, however to continue to be able to connect to the network, to print to CNU printers, or to download software necessary for your classes, you will have to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro.
In order to allow you to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro, your computer can be temporarily allowed to connect to CNU’s network. To connect your computer to the network, you’ll need to either contact our Customer Service Desk at (757) 594-7079 or put in a ticket at help.cnu.edu. Once you’re connected to the network, we highly encourage you to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro as soon as possible.
What software doesn’t work with Windows 10S?
Any software not available in the Windows Store will not work with Windows 10S. This includes, but is not limited to, the following CNU-provided software:
OnGuard--Required to connect to CNU Network
PrintAnywhere -- CNU print system
Mathematica
MATLAB
SPSS

How can I upgrade to Windows 10 Pro?
To upgrade to Windows 10 Pro, you must use the Windows Store. Access it by clicking the Windows Store button on your taskbar.
From there, click the search button.
Search for Windows 10 Pro, and click the link.
Depending on your specific computer, you’ll either see a “Free” button or a button that says “Buy”.
You’ll be asked to sign in to your Microsoft account. If you have to pay for your upgrade, you’ll be asked to enter or confirm payment information. Once that’s done, click Start Upgrade.
The upgrade will then start. After it completes, your computer will restart. Upon logging in, you’ll see the following success message:
