You can use negative scoring on a test questions in Scholar. However, the default setting in Blackboard disallows this function. You can change that setting on the test canvas page.
Once you start creating a test, just select ‘Question Settings’ on the page you use to add questions to the test (the Test Canvas).
Clicking this button opens a page containing a menu of test options. The fourth section of this page allows you to turn on negative scoring by checking the box next to that selection.
To save your test settings choose submit.
Now when you build questions such as multiple choice, you have the option of giving negative points for incorrect answers.
On the Create/Edit page for the question you can specify question options. If you check the box for partial credit, the option to specify negative points becomes available and you can check it as well.
The partial credit option will now appear below the boxes for each possible answer. To specify greater consequences for bad answers, select the partial credit option, which will open an additional option for allowing negative scores for incorrect answers.
Selecting this option will allow you to place a negative value in the Partial Credit field for each incorrect answer.
In the above example, the student would have the full points value of the question deducted from their overall test score by choosing the answer with this designation.
After inputting all information, simply submit the question as normal to add it to the test.
