Since Christopher Newport University uses a web-based e-mail system, there is some required setup to e-mail your advisees.  The easiest way to do so is using the Chrome browser.  The first time that you try to e-mail your advisees, you may need to set up Chrome to handle e-mail links.

Setting up Chrome to Handle E-mail Links (one-time)

To do so, navigate to your CNU e-mail.  You’ll see the following symbol in the Address Bar:

Chrome Email Client Symbol

Click on the symbol and the following menu will appear.

Use CNU Mail As Client

Select “Use Christopher Newport University Mail” from the menu and click “Done”.  From now on, any e-mail link you click on within Chrome will open up in your CNU e-mail.

Resetting the Mail Handler

If you don't see the symbol, it means that you've previously told Google not to use your CNU mail to open mail links and you'll need to reset it.

To reset the mail handler, click on the three dots at the far right of Chrome and choose Settings.
Settings menu item

Choose Site Settings.
Site Settings

Click Additional Permissions.

Then, choose Handlers.

Make sure that "Sites can ask to handle protocols" is turned on, and that you don't have anything in "Not allowed to handle protocols".  If you do, click the x.

E-mailing your Advisees (each time)

Once you have set up Chrome to handle e-mail links, you can follow these directions each time to e-mail your advisees:

  1. Open Chrome and log in to Connect.
  2. On the Start Page, on the right side of the blue banner, click on CNU Live.
  3. Select Faculty Services and then select Advisor Menu.
  4. Enter the term, and select View Advisee List.  Scroll to the bottom of the listing where it says "E-mail to Advisees"
  5. Click on the "E-mail advisees"
  6. An e-mail window will pop up.

This procedure only works with Chrome.
